Your product description suggests using tatami mats with it but you don't say which ones, or what size area they need to cover. You also don't provide the overall measurements. I'd buy the bed & the mats, but I don't have enough info here to know what t order, nor what size I should go with to fit my space. Fortunately Gaiam Goods offers the very same bed from the same source at the same price, & DO give the add'l info needed to make an informed purchase.

By Shaaron D. Evans
I purchased this bed from another site about 5 years ago for much less, but I think the wood is different. I was on the look out for a bed that would be easy to put together, take apart and transport. The bed is very easy to assemble and very comfortable with a regular mattress. I use a boxspring as well which still fits down into the frame. I get tons of compliments on it.

It's solid wood, but that wood is low quality. One of the sides was made of two pieces which were glued together. Just like the ultra-cheap 2x4s that are used in trailers. At least they had the decency to put some veneer over it so you can't see it from the outside.Holes for brackets drilled in wrong location so two brackets would not line up with them. Wood slats are fairly flexible, so you better have 3/4 oak plywood, a box spring or tatami mats to go over them. Missing hardware, screws are super cheap, one had it's head snap off while I was tightening it down. Slats are held down with drywall screws. Good job guys!Finish is pretty fragile. Got a bunch of black color imbedded in it from lightly sliding a tatami mat over the side.I bought the two tatami mats direct from Oriental Furniture since Amazon doesn't sell them. They were decent since they came from Malaysia. They don't tell you, but you need two of the mats. Of course they didn't fit right (too wide), forcing me to lift them up in the center and then force them down to get them in.From the one page hand-drawn assembly instructions, the bed is made in China since the instructions are only in Chinese.Only real upside was that the bed came boxed in 4 boxes. One inside the other, inside the other.... The outer box was beaten up so the freight delivery person and I opened the box, to find another box, and another box and one more. Had a good laugh over that, but the contents were unscathed.Given the high price I expected something a bit better. It works, but it's really more like a $300 bed frame. Plus figure another $400 for the tatami mats. $1200 has got to get you a better bed than this.
